Mondays Encouragement for Living
When we understand how terrible a disease leprosy is, we just can't fathom the dismal numbers of the title. When we understand the culture at the time and its attitude toward lepers and anyone "unclean", we still can't see such numbers as above. Then when we factor in the extreme chance of Jesus coming near a leper community when the trip was out of his way...yes we're still talking about the numbers above. 1 out of 10.
In Luke 17, the Bible records this very occurrence. Jesus was on his way to Jerusalem and he came in contact with ten men that had leprosy. He told them to present themselves before the priest and as they walked they were healed. But one returned. He returned to give thanks. The other nine didn't bother to do so. Some may read this post and think that you are that rare 10%. Chances are, you're not. Maybe the nine thought that they "deserved" this opportunity. Maybe they "deserved" to be cleansed. But only one "when he saw he was healed" returned to give praise to God.
Think of how much we take. Think of how much we take from others. Think of how much we take from God. Think of how much we take for granted.
Spend, not only this holiday season but the rest of your life, this time giving thanks. Because in His eyes we were all lepers... "Were not all cleansed? Where are the other[s]..."
