Did You Know?

Today while at work, my co worker helped me to realize that CORN is NOT A VEGGIE its a GRAIN! I thought ... wow all these years I have been classifying corn as a vegetable. So I have decided to do a corn blog :-D

Know Your Food: CORN!

Corn is a grain and has a high volume of vitamin A. Corn has about 10 times the amount of vitamin A than other grains. Its also high in antioxidants and carotenoids that are associated with eye health. Corn is a gluten-free grain and in many gluten-free foods.
There are many different types of corn and the best-known version is sweet corn.
Sweet corn - is often smothered in butter and salt, then eaten off the cob. Sweet corn has earned its name by its high sugar content.
Dent Corn (Field corn) - is usually fed to livestock and used to make industrial products.
Flint Corn (Decorative Indian corn) - is often symbolic of fall and Thanksgiving. Its primarily grown in Central and South America.

Thanks to my co worker for telling me about one of your nutrition pet peeves (people counting corn as a vegetable serving) :-/
